Bring the classroom to life and visit sites of remembrance
The Great War Exhibition is located within the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park. Pukeahu is New Zealand’s key commemorative site, an important venue for schools exploring concepts such as national identity, citizenship, remembrance and commemoration. By visiting the Great War Exhibition students will gain a greater understanding of how the First World War helped shape New Zealand society then and now.
The Great War Exhibition
The Great War Exhibition provides an introduction to the First World War from a global perspective with a focus on the Western Front; which is where the majority of New Zealanders served and died. Here we can explore the changing nature of warfare, its impact on the landscape and how it affected the lives of those involved.
Pukeahu National War Memorial Park
Pukeahu National War Memorial Park is New Zealand’s key commemorative site. Here we can discover personal and community connections to our military history as well as consider what we commemorate, how and why.
The newly opened Queen Elizabeth II Pukeahu Education Centre is an exciting addition to Pukeahu. It provides a space to build upon the experience of a visit to the Great War Exhibition and Pukeahu with a range of pre and post visit activities that help embed learning.
