The ANZ Room – Gallipoli
ANZ presents Gallipoli: The New Zealand Story in Colour is an in-depth account of the battles at Gallipoli, perhaps New Zealand’s most recognised campaign.
The ANZ Room focuses on New Zealand’s story. It contains an enormous diorama featuring over 5000 tiny, hand-painted figurines frozen in time at the capture of Chunuk Bair on 8 August 1915 when the Wellington Battalion took and defended a hilltop on the ridge line – the highest point reached by the Allied forces. The diorama demonstrates the desperate fighting, bravery and leadership on both sides of this crucial battle.
Black and white photographs of the invasion of Gallipoli have been painstakingly colourised, giving visitors an insight into the struggles and hardship experienced by all who fought.
